WELCOME

At the centre of Ashbourne’s Market Place, The Brass Button continues a legacy that began over 100 years ago as the Ashbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club.

Originally founded as a place of camaraderie for those who served in the British Armed Forces, the club has long stood as a cornerstone of Ashbourne life — a place where service, friendship, and community come together under one roof.
Learn a bit more about us below.

Our new name, The Brass Button…

The Brass button logo. About the Brass Button

…symbolises pride, unity, and the polished detail that connects our past to our future. Just as a button holds a uniform together, we hold together the community of veterans, locals, members and visitors who walk through our doors.

For Veterans, Locals, Members and Visitors Alike

Today, The Brass Button is open to all — from serving and ex-serving personnel to Ashbourne residents, club members and tourists exploring the Peak District.

We are proud to serve as the Ashbourne Ex-Servicemen’s Club, but you don’t need to have worn a uniform to feel at home here. Whether you’re stopping by for a drink, attending one of our live music nights, or simply soaking in the friendly atmosphere, you’ll be welcomed as part of our community.

Our bar, lounge, and function spaces offer the perfect setting for conversation, connection, and celebration — with all proceeds helping us continue our support for veterans and local causes.

Run by the Community, for the Community

The Brass Button is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers, many with strong ties to the Armed Forces and the local area.

Together, they manage the club’s operations, events, and fundraising efforts — ensuring the venue remains a welcoming, affordable, and vibrant part of Ashbourne life.

Their work keeps the doors open, the atmosphere friendly, and the connection between the Ashbourne Ex-Servicemen and the wider community alive and thriving.

Rooted in Ashbourne Tradition

Ashbourne is a town rich in history…

…famous for its Royal Shrovetide Football — a tradition that brings the whole community together each year.

Ashbourne is a charming market town at the gateway to the Peak District, featuring elegant Georgian architecture, independent shops, and the beautiful St Oswald’s Church. As the starting point of the scenic Tissington Trail, it is perfect for exploring the surrounding countryside on foot or by bike. Whether you seek outdoor adventures, traditional English atmosphere, or simply a peaceful escape from tourist crowds, Ashbourne offers an authentic and memorable experience.
